Don’t have a Netflix subscription but want to check out the streaming platform’s new animated series, Blue Eye Samurai? If so, you’re in luck: the first hour-long episode is available for you to watch for free on YouTube.
The series is a violent one (check out a NSFW trailer here if you’re curious), takes place in 17th century Japan, and centers around a woman samurai who disguises herself as a man in order to exact vengeance.
Here’s the show’s synopsis:
This provocative and visually stunning cinematic series immerses the viewer in a world of vivid adult animation with a live-action edge. Set in Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.
The series comes from Logan writer Michael Green and newcomer Amber Noizumi. The voice cast is also impressive; in addition to Erskine in the main role, the series features George Takei as Seki, Masi Oka as Ringo, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as The Swordmaker, Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, and Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler. The supporting voice cast includes Stephanie Hsu as Ise, Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi, and Mark Dacascos as Chiaki.
